Uberman is the name given to a type of polyphasic sleep. Uberman is the mashing up of the German word “über” meaning “super” and “man” from the English (whereas in German the word “man” is “mensch”). There are other types of polyphasic sleep besides Uberman such as the Everyman sleep schedule and the Dymaxion sleep schedule (borrowed from Buckminster Fuller).
The idea behind this sleep schedule is to get the most waking hours out of a day. Where most people ideally get 16 hours of time awake, people who use polyphasic sleep techniques get at least 20 hours of sleep.
The terms Uberman and one of the other sleep schedules called Everyman were coined by a blogger who calls herself PureDoxyk and has written so extensively on the subject that she has even written a book about it.
