What is Uberman?

Uber­man is the name given to a type of polypha­sic sleep. Uber­man is the mash­ing up of the Ger­man word “über” mean­ing “super” and “man” from the Eng­lish (whereas in Ger­man the word “man” is “men­sch”). There are other types of polypha­sic sleep besides Uber­man such as the Every­man sleep sched­ule and the Dymax­ion sleep sched­ule (bor­rowed from Buck­min­ster Fuller).

The idea behind this sleep sched­ule is to get the most wak­ing hours out of a day. Where most peo­ple ide­ally get 16 hours of time awake, peo­ple who use polypha­sic sleep tech­niques get at least 20 hours of sleep.

The terms Uber­man and one of the other sleep sched­ules called Every­man were coined by a blog­ger who calls her­self Pure­Doxyk and has writ­ten so exten­sively on the sub­ject that she has even writ­ten a book about it.
